ILCAAAP sponsors poster contest

Illinois Churches In Action invites all students in grades 6-12 in public, private, and home schools to participate in the 2009 Alcohol Awareness Month Poster Contest. Posters should illustrate the values of not drinking and include the theme “don’t drink drugs, alcohol is a drug”.
Each poster must be the work of one student and an original design. Posters should not include any commercial characters, violent or offensive details. All entries must be postmarked by March 21. Posters will be judged on overall impact, effectiveness in conveying the theme, originality, and artistic merit.
Alcohol is the drug most frequently used by young people, and the one that causes the most negative health consequences.  Early use of alcohol can impede a child’s physical, mental and social development. By the time adolescents reach 8th grade, 44 percent have had at least one drink and almost 20 percent report having been “drunk.” Research shows that drinking patterns established during adolescence are likely to continue through adulthood.
Winning entries will be announced and displayed at the State Capitol Rotunda on April 2 during the ILCAAAP Faith, Family and Future Rally.  Additional information may be found at www.ilcaaap.org or by calling 866-940-6871.
Illinois Churches In Action is a statewide, non-profit prevention organization and an affiliate of Illinois Church Action on Alcohol and Addiction Problems.
